The Moving Statue

The Moving Statue
I was driving around today (on the way to my haircut) and almost had an accident. There was a guy leaning on a cane on the side of the road. I thought he was a statue. He was perfectly still for a few minutes. Then he moved, started running away.

He startled me.

He didn’t know that he did. Didn’t even realize it. Probably didn’t think twice about the rickety blue minivan that passed him.

So… The lesson that I learned?

Analysis – Why did I startle? Not because the guy moved. Because if the guy moved before I wouldn’t have been startled. I startled because first the guy didn’t move, and then he did.

Lesson – “Not doing anything at all is also doing something.”

From an interview with Bibi Natanyahu on British Television this morning:

The interviewer asked him: "How come so many more Lebanese have been killed in this conflict than Israelis?"

Natanyahu: "Are you sure that you want to start asking in that direction?"

Interviewer: Why not?

Natanyahu: "Because in World War II more Germans were killed than British and Americans combined, but there is no doubt in anyone's mind that the war was caused by Germany's aggression. And in response to the German blitz on London, the British wiped out the entire city of Dresden, burning to death more German civilians than the number of people killed in Hiroshima.

Moreover, I could remind you that in 1944, when the R.A.F. tried to bomb the Gestapo Headquarters in Copenhagen, some of the bombs missed their target and fell on a Danish children's hospital, killing 83 little children .

Perhaps you have another question?"
