I lost 130k this week.
Not real money. Credit.
American Express called me up and started asking for all sorts of information.
I did a bit of quick internet research while they were on the phone. This is called their “Financial Review”. Many accounts that have large credit lines get “audited” and they want lots of personal information.
Worse than that (for me) was the forms and paperwork they needed to be filled out.
You see, I hate paperwork. I have a hard enough time doing taxes once a year.
I told the guy, Mr Bensomething, that I can’t do paperwork for him. I have a stack of "thank you" letters that have to go out first.
He told me that I have 5 days or he will close my account.
I didn’t like that.
I told him to cancel my account immediately, and be sure to mark it on the credit bureau “Closed by customer”.
He said “Oh, we are only suspending the account now. You may close itif you wish, but we are merely reviewing it”.
I said “Please close it now.”
I know credit isn’t money. But still, there was something neat about being able to put a house on a credit card.
I was going to buy the new Chabad house in York with it!
Love,
Rabbi
