Shabak Head Tells of Personal Audience With the Rebbe

Former head of Israel's Security Service Yaakov Peritold Lubavitchers about a private audience he had at 1304 President St., and how the Rebbe foresaw the danger of Islamic terror.
Yaakov Peri, who was head of Israel's General Security Service (Shabak) from 1988 to 1994, was a guest speaker Monday night at a large Farbrengen in Kfar Chabad marking Gimmel Tammuz, theRebbe's yahrzeit.

Lubavitchers gathered heard from him about a Yechidus - private audience he had with the Rebbe in the 1990s held at an uncommon location - 1304 President Street in Brooklyn, the Rebbe's personal residence.

Peri said that during that meeting he received from the Rebbe a "no less than perfect" overview of developments expected to occur in the world and the arab world in specifically.

"There was a pleasant, silent and welcoming atmosphere in the meeting," he recalled. "I told him my background, and I can tell you, he knew Shabak's whereabouts better than me. He knew the finest details."

Peri said the Rebbe tentatively listened to him during their one-on-one encounter and took particular interest in the Shabak's cooperation with foreign spy agencies.

"The Rebbe analyzed world terror at great length and referred to the sources of the conflict with the arabs and why, at the end of the day, extreme Islam will continue with murderous terror."

As the meeting came to a close, Peri said the Rebbe told him, "whenever you come to the U.S. my home is open for you and the Chabad movement is available for your service the same way you and the Shabak are servicing the Jewish nation."

Peri, who works today in the private sector, added that he was deeply impressed by the vast network of Chabad Shluchim the world over who accomplish goals "without committees, board meetings, consultants and vacations."
